Fried brown rice; poached flounder with komatsuna (a spinach-like green) and maitake mushrooms. Hideaki cooked (and did a fine job, as usual).
He proved himself a keeper today by taking out the trash in the morning before he went to bed (he works nights), waking up early to call City Hall and enquire about some mystery tax they're trying to charge us, coming to my work to deliver something I'd forgotten, doing the grocery shopping, and cooking dinner. All this before his work started.
May not sound like much, but these are all things that are considered wives' work here. Really- taking out the trash and dealing with bills, taxes and official-type stuff is strictly for women. Unfortunately for him, this woman lacks the language and math skills for dealing with taxes and wakes up long after the garbage truck has left.
I thought I'd show my appreciation by making dessert: parfait made with yogurt, brown rice flakes and peaches. Better than it sounds.
